Summary: This chapter specifically talks about Latina happiness. Latina finds out that her mom has a new boyfriend. He goes by the name Lenard. Latina feels as though that Lenard is driving her mother to be this crazy alcholic, to also drive her into these emotional roller coasters. She hates it. At school, Latina makes a new friend and her name is Gloria. Latina invited Gloria over to a slumber party and they stayed up all night watching Michale Jackson videos. They ate pizza, popcorn, pop soda, and all the candy they could think of. Latina finally reveals who her secret crush is, and it seems to be one of the boys who teased her recently. Her friend Gloria doesn't know why she has an interest in him. His name is Troy. Latina says, Troy can sometimes be mean and hurtful but, at times he's kind hearted. Towards the middle of the chapter, Latina's mother stops seeing Lenard. Latina's father comes to surprise Latina and her mother, but Latina isn't to happy about it. She ponders why he decided to come back after 12 years, and he simply exclaims that he decided to own up to his responsibilities and become a father to her. She's still in shock, but she's willing to give him a chance. After the first week, Latina warms up to him and actually appreciates the fact that he's back, her mother stopped drinking and she found a new job that she loves. Latina consider herself a lucky girl now because she has a family. She says he's the reason her mother is happy and be able to afford the things in life that were impossible to have.

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this book a 10. My reasoning why is because this book gets juicer and juicer every chapter. For an example, i never knew any clue that the book would reveal Latina's father appearence. I'm shocked. I would think after she saw her father she wouldn't want anything to do with him, considering the fact that he decides to show up unannouncely and repair the damage he's done to her and her mother. It's just so crazy- but I like it. I can't wait to see whats going to happen in the next chapter. I wounder if Latina is still going to like her father or if she's going to start to hate him. You never really can predict anything in this book.

Rainsford Paragraph

In my opinion Rainsford seems to value liberty rather than equality. In the beginning of the story Rainsford shows lack of concern for animals. He agrees that hunting is the best sport in the world. He says to Whitney, his hunting partner, “Don’t talk rot, you're a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?” Throughout the story Rainsford goes on a killing spree. When asked by General Zaroff to play “the most dangerous game” Rainsford comes up with strategies to hurt Zaroff. Rainsford digs pits, the result of killing a dog, and makes trees fall on the General hoping he would suffer a sever injury or die. Lastly, Rainsford doesn’t seem to feel any guilt about his actions. Feeling no sympathy Rainsford felt a sudden impulse to cry aloud with joy, realizing that he has yet again kilt a living creature. "I am still a beast at bay," he said, in a low, hoarse voice as he killed General Zaroff and rewarded his self by lying in the Generals bed, without thinking twice about what he did. Further more we can infer that Rainsford has yet to feel otherwise about his hunting sport, he kills to kill and doesn’t regret doing it, which makes him value liberty over equality.

Page #: Chapter 1

Summary: This chapter talks about a women resortinng back to her childhood. She sits in the salon getting her hair done for her wedding while she reminisces to her hair stylist the hardships of her life. Latina talks about how her mother was never really there for her when she was a child; her father left her mother and her when she was only eight years old. She lives in a one bedroom apartment with cold water and little furniture. Latina hates the fact that her mother and her are living in these condictions. One day when Latina attends school, she is teased repeatedly for her bad hygiene. She becomes highly upset because she knows her mother can't afford a candy bar and yet alone a bar of soap. Latina's teacher comes over her house and offers her mother help. The chapter ends with Latina going to school smelling freasher than ever and having a positive attitude about life. Latina's mother still lacks interest in her life but is there when asked of her. Her teacher becomes her best friend, and Latina develops a secret crush on a boy.

On a scale of 1-10, so far I would have to rate this book a 9. my reasoning why is because after reading a couple of passages I began to have an interest for Latina's character. In the first chapter I learned that her childhood wasn't like any other child's, but she has learned to coupe through it. I admire the passion and the insite that Latina has for life. Even though her life isn't perfect as well as the people in it, she seems to make the best of the situation and apperciate what life has to offer.
