Title: Just my Luck
Author: Tajuana Butler
Page #: Chapter 1

Summary: This chapter talks about a women resortinng back to her childhood. She sits in the salon getting her hair done for her wedding while she reminisces to her hair stylist the hardships of her life. Latina talks about how her mother was never really there for her when she was a child; her father left her mother and her when she was only eight years old. She lives in a one bedroom apartment with cold water and little furniture. Latina hates the fact that her mother and her are living in these condictions. One day when Latina attends school, she is teased repeatedly for her bad hygiene. She becomes highly upset because she knows her mother can't afford a candy bar and yet alone a bar of soap. Latina's teacher comes over her house and offers her mother help. The chapter ends with Latina going to school smelling freasher than ever and having a positive attitude about life. Latina's mother still lacks interest in her life but is there when asked of her. Her teacher becomes her best friend, and Latina develops a secret crush on a boy.

On a scale of 1-10, so far I would have to rate this book a 9. my reasoning why is because after reading a couple of passages I began to have an interest for Latina's character. In the first chapter I learned that her childhood wasn't like any other child's, but she has learned to coupe through it. I admire the passion and the insite that Latina has for life. Even though her life isn't perfect as well as the people in it, she seems to make the best of the situation and apperciate what life has to offer.
