Title: Just My Luck
Author: Tajuana Butler
Page: Chapter 2

Summary: This chapter specifically talks about Latina happiness. Latina finds out that her mom has a new boyfriend. He goes by the name Lenard. Latina feels as though that Lenard is driving her mother to be this crazy alcholic, to also drive her into these emotional roller coasters. She hates it. At school, Latina makes a new friend and her name is Gloria. Latina invited Gloria over to a slumber party and they stayed up all night watching Michale Jackson videos. They ate pizza, popcorn, pop soda, and all the candy they could think of. Latina finally reveals who her secret crush is, and it seems to be one of the boys who teased her recently. Her friend Gloria doesn't know why she has an interest in him. His name is Troy. Latina says, Troy can sometimes be mean and hurtful but, at times he's kind hearted. Towards the middle of the chapter, Latina's mother stops seeing Lenard. Latina's father comes to surprise Latina and her mother, but Latina isn't to happy about it. She ponders why he decided to come back after 12 years, and he simply exclaims that he decided to own up to his responsibilities and become a father to her. She's still in shock, but she's willing to give him a chance. After the first week, Latina warms up to him and actually appreciates the fact that he's back, her mother stopped drinking and she found a new job that she loves. Latina consider herself a lucky girl now because she has a family. She says he's the reason her mother is happy and be able to afford the things in life that were impossible to have.

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this book a 10. My reasoning why is because this book gets juicer and juicer every chapter. For an example, i never knew any clue that the book would reveal Latina's father appearence. I'm shocked. I would think after she saw her father she wouldn't want anything to do with him, considering the fact that he decides to show up unannouncely and repair the damage he's done to her and her mother. It's just so crazy- but I like it. I can't wait to see whats going to happen in the next chapter. I wounder if Latina is still going to like her father or if she's going to start to hate him. You never really can predict anything in this book.
