Although Animal Farm appears to be a simple story about animals, it is actually a satire of Russian society. The farm is taken over by overworked, and mistreated animals. With there raging ideas they plan to create a life of luxury, justice, and equality. In animal farm, the pigs use stories and lies to inspire others, empower themselves, and oppress the animals on the farm. This story insites it’s readers about the way the Russians were treated by there rulers.
First of all, There are stories that are inspired by the leaders of the farm. Old Majors speech would be one. In Old Majors story, he says to the animals, Man is the only real enemy. Remove man from the scene and the root cause of hunger and overwork will soon be abolished. Old Majors speech was told to have a positive impact on the animals. Soon a rebellion will be in motion. Future generations shall carry on the struggle until it is victorious. Another story is the windmill. Snowball painted a picture of animal farm as it might be when sordid labour was lifted from the animals back. Electricity could operate threshing machines, ploughs, harrows, rollers, reapers, binders, electric light, hot and cold water, and electric heaters. The story of rebellion was deeply inspired by the animals. Rumors of a wonderful farm continued to circulate a wave of rebelliousness through the country side. Bulls suddenly turned savage, sheep’s broke down hedges and devoured the clover, and cows kicked the pail over. These stories were told by the animals because they were obligated to enlighten each other on tragic and exciting events that were taken in and out of animal farm.
Secondly, the animals tell lies to empower themselves. Squealer told a story to the animals about certain animals being able to sleep in beds. The forth commandment was changed to “No animal shall sleep in beds with sheets.” Because of the fact that the pigs were brainworkers, they were allowed to sleep in beds, which meant removing the sheets and sleeping between them. Another lie was told by Squealer about milk and apples. Eating the milk and apples will preserve health, and contain substances absolutely necessary to a well- being of a pig. The pigs are brainworkers, and the well- fare of the farm depend on them, without the milk and apples the pigs are unable to do their daily duties. Demanding the Hens to give up there eggs, was a lie told by Squealer. Napoleon had accepted a contract from Whymper, for a hundred eggs a week. The price of the eggs would pay for enough grain and meal to keep the farm going until the weather conditions were manageable. These stories were told so the leaders of the farm could gain power and privileges.
Lastly, the animals tell stories to oppress the others. Taking away meetings so the animals could no longer voice there opinion was one. The debates on Sunday must come to a end if they were liable to bring Jones back. What ever Napoleon planned or said was always right, so there was no reason to hold meetings if the overall decisions were to be made by Napoleon. No killing with out cause, showed mistreatment amongst the animals. Animals confessed to secretly communicating with Snowball; afterwards, they had there throats ripped out by Napoleons dogs. The animals had saw to it that the six commandment had not been violated and concluded that there was a good reason for killing the traitors who had leagued themselves with Snowball. Some animals are more equal than others was unfair. There was no surprise to the animals when the seventh commandment was changed, considering the fact that Napoleon was seen wearing Jones clothes. The pigs also had the opportunity to install a telephone. These stories were made to oppress the animals and brain watch them to make them believe other wise.
In conclusion, In the story, Napoleon, Squealer, and Snowball tell stories and lies to get there way. First of all, they use stories to inspire the animals. Secondly, they use stories to gain power for themselves. Third, they use stories to take power away from the other animals. In today's society people use stories and lies to use others to there advantage. Politicians empower and oppress America to do as they please.
